The Server for backup are Windows Server 2008 R2 . Active Directory, File server and TMG Server and also if the Servers are on the Virtual Machines :>

If your a pure windows shop and the virtual machines are running on hyper-v NOT vmware id recommend DPM 2010 (a new version will be released in 2012). This is a Microsoft product that will do disk to disk backup with tape or archiving/long term backup. You can even do backup to one DPM server and replicate those to another dpm server off site.
