USB drive slow 15 years 9 months ago #22149

Hey everyone,

Are USB 2.0 and USB-High speed the same? I have a 200GB file I need to transfer to another system. It crawls over the network so I got a USB portable HD hoping it would be faster. I have it connected to a HP proliant DL380 G4 and was curiour to know if I need to get a PCI USB interface card to get a faster transfer rate. Right now it take about 20 hr to copy the file.

Not sure about USB Hi speed. However if your disk is USB2.0 then you need a USB2.0 port on your server to get the benefit. A USB2.0 device pluged into a USB1 port will crawl

Yes, USB 2.0 and Hi-speed USB are the same thing. The comparison obviously being made with USB 1.1 which has a theoretical maximum of 12Mbps as compared with USB 2.0's 480 Mbps.
