Type 1 Crypto

Hi Guys,

I work for the government and I've applied for a job where I have to demonstrate "knowledge of secure communications equipments including type 1 crypto and their applications to IT systems".

Crappy thing is I got the secure comm down.. but I'm struggling with the type 1 crypto.. What is it?

Can anyone direct me toward an online resource so I can learn about this stuff?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have to write the test on the 30th.
