Hi peeps,

this is an odd one. I have a motherboard MSI 845PE MAX and i have just bought 2 x 1Gig DDR 333 memory chips (old computer that the misses uses). The problem is that it only detects it as 32Mb. The motherboard manual says that it can take upto 2Gb. I have Flashed the BIOS with the latest one but it doesn't seem to have worked.

Anyone come across anything similar who can drop us some advise please ?

Cheers

Wayne

Does it detect correctly when you have only one of the chips installed? Also, I observed a note on the MSI website relating to this motherboard: [code:1]Note: FSB533 CPU is required in order to choose DDR333 selection in the BIOS setup.[/code:1]Don't think it's the cause of the problem, but something elase to look at.

No didn't get it sorted, the memory isn't faulty as i tried it in my mates computer. The memory i currently have is 333Mhz and it works (2 x 256 chips). I have just order (2 x 512) to double the memory and hopefully this will work.

MSI couldn't be bothered replying to me, think i will stick with more expensive motherboards, although that one was donated to me :)

You're right, I have come across these compatibility issues with boards from the lower end of the market.

I have been told that this is because the memory was High Density and for older machines its best to go for Low Density (Dunno what the difference is though :))
