recovering deleted files from a network/shared resource

hi to all


i just want to know if there is a way to recover files/resources shared on a network if these were accidentally deleted on one host connected to the network and having access to the resource on a windows environment?

any help, comments, suggestions are mostly welcome. thanks in advance :)

Maybe look towards your network media backup? or other restoration processes (I.E - shadow copy *if on windows 2003* blah blah blah

If you have physical access to the other box you can recover the files using forensic tools for eg. Autopsy

yes i do have physical access to the remote PC...what is this "Autopsy" that you've mentioned sahihr? is this freeware? thanks :)

I am pretty sure it comes with Helix Linux which is a Live (bootable) CD Linux Distro specially designed for computer forensics. It is built off Knoppix and is a must have (so is Knoppix) for any sysadmins.

Yes it comes with Helix..

you can also use any number of these file undelete utilities if its just one or two files..
