I just downloaded Knoppix and popped it in, but I never set any password (or logged in as any certian user name). So when I need to do things as root its asking for the password but I dont know it... Is there some standard password or am I supposed to go somewhere to change it somewhere or...?

Thanks for any help.

Knoppix automatically logs you in as a user called 'knoppix' with full sudo privs.. you can become root just by typing 'su' and pressing enter.

Once there you can change the password by typing 'passwd'.

Alternatively you can use the 'knoppix' user to do alot of tasks, for example nmap

sudo nmap.

Anytime.

Check out the hard-disk installation, Knoppix works great from hard disk, and co-exists wonderfully with Windows. Plus you'll get to check out Debian the easy way.. and once you touch 'apt-get' you'll never look back.

Beware, its addictive.. I can't wait till I can

apt-get install pepsi
