Serial Interface was created by Arani
Hi All,
My desktop does not have a serial interface. Neither does my laptop. would a USB to serial interface work with a CISCO router/switch? If yes then is there a particular brand that does. I have heard that some of them don't give you full functionality of a normal serial interface.
Or is it just better sense to go buy a pc serial interface card instead.

No Worries guys, I settled for the PCI serial interface card option. It's better to do it the way it's supposed to be done instead of trying an alternative. They never give you the best results.

For the record you can use a usb port instead of a com port you just need an adapter. The only problem with usb that you may run into is that it may have an issue going into rommon. (you can fix that buy changing hyper terminal settings and simulating a ctrl break signal)

Thanks mate, but I have decided to settle for the obvious option of getting myself a pci card. Couldn't resist the fun of installing something on my desktop!!! But thanks anyway.
