The Gimp is open source. I am not into graphic design so this is my only reason for choosing the GIMP. For my skill level it is exactly the same as photoshop.

Just to add to smitherton's comments re: Photoshop vs Gimp.
Although ardent GIMP fans may disagree, Photoshop is definitely the one to beat. But the GIMP is an extremely powerful piece of software and it will do for most users except those who exist in the upper Photoshop stratosphere. And unless you've got a knocked off copy of Photoshop, the Gimp is unbeatable on price and it runs on Windows, Linux and MAC.

I was all excited by using The Gimp until i installed it and it don't work. Another program that doesn't like Vista, oh well back to MS Paint, lol.
