Need input on Router was created by toniii
Hello everyone. I have been considering purchasing a router to play around with, but I want to make sure my money is being well spent. My price range is from $150 to $200. This is a Cisco 851 Ethernet SOHO Security Router that is being sold on amazon. here is the link

Anyone with positive and negative input would be appreciated.

Tonii,

I'd strongly advise you look at the 870 series. They cost a bit more, but you get to play with features found on larger routers e.g VPN, QoS, Vlans and more.

Does anyone else have any recommendations ?

851 will do for the "basic stuff" but of course...

For $200 you could probably get a few 'older' routers on whatever auction site you like.

With a few routers a few switches and the simulators I have I can replicate almost any situation. I'm very happy with how it has turned out.

Chris,

any idea on what the price ranges are for the 870 series routers? I'm not gonna lie im a broke college student, and I'm trying to find something to play with until the Cisco Lab here is back up and running
