Hi Chris,

How r u. You had told that you would be posting the tutorials of VLAN by 1st week of June.

I would like to know the status of it. And how long it would take. Cause i have a lot of doubts and Im confident that your tutorial will clear all my doubts.

Waiting .........

Chris has almost finished VLAN's.. it got delayed because he was attacked by a giant olive.. after wrestling the olive to the ground, Chris finally got free...

Hmmm ... the 'olive' topic is starting to pop up everywhere and that's a bit concerning .... I think we should ban them from the site despite the fact I love them :)

huliyar, to answer your question, I've actually decided to further extend the VLAN topic ... this means that its going to take a bit more time to come out of the oven :)

To give you an idea on where I am at the moment and how big the topic will be, I can tell you that its going to be the most detailed topic ever on the site. At present, there are 12 pages and ..... 42 of our new generation graphics developed for the topic.

As you can appreciate, it takes ALOT of time to make the new graphics as there are more than 3 programs involved to generate the final gif/jpg file that gets inserted into the document.

By the end, I'm expecting the VLAN topic to be around 25 pages long with more than 100 diagrams... an impressive number if you consider the site has a total of around 240 pages with 600 images.

To give in abit on whats covered, here's a hint of the introduction page:

Section 1: The VLAN Concept.

Section 2: Designing VLANs. Comparison With Old Networks.

Section 2.1: Designing VLANs - [Section 1]: Static VLANs.

Section 2.2: Designing VLANs - [Section 2]: Dynamic VLANs.

Section 3: VLAN Links: Access Links & Trunk Links.

Section 4: VLAN Tagging - ISL, 802.1q, LANE and IEEE 802.10

Section 5: Analysing the ISL Protocol & 802.1q Protocol.

Section 5.1: InterSwitch Link Analysis:

Section 5.2: IEEE 802.1q Analysis:

Section 6: InterVLAN Routing.

Section 7: VLANs and the Virtual Trunking Protocol (VTP).

Section 7.1: VTP Modes and Domain

Section 7.2: Indepth analysis of the VTP Protocol and structure

Section 8: Special VLAN requirements - Voice over IP (VoIP), Quality Of Service (QOS) & Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).

Section 9: Troubleshooting VLANs in a Cisco powered network.

Section 10: VLAN Redundancy using redundant links and STP.

Section 11: Building your own VLAN Network

Section 11.1: Configuring VLANs and Trunks

Section 11.2: Configuring InterVLAN Routing

Section 11.3: Configuring VTP Server, Client, TRansparent

Section 12: Migrating to a Cisco VLAN oriented network.A

Do I need to say more about what to expect ? :)

I just finished tonight Section 7.1 and starting 7.2 which should be complete by mid next week at the latest.

If you have any comments to suggestions, nows the time to let us know !!!

You can say that again Neon... I can honestly say ..... there won't be any site on the Internet that will cover the topic like we will be!
