A hardware firewall might be an option if
a) It was cheap
b) It was powered by the PC, so a reboot/reset would also reset it and help in alleviating any freezing or gone wacky problems.
*I had looked at a good one a year or two ago and they were a bit to pricey at the time but pretty cool.
Machines are pretty locked down and only one application runs.
They don't use email/IE/internet. So from the shooting themselves in the foot department they are pretty safe. Mainly network probes I'm worried about.
