OK all you CCNAs and above! Let's see what you remember. Here's a question for ya:

What would be the appropriate subnet mask for a serial connection between two Cisco 1700 series routers?
a.) 255.255.0.0
b.) 255.255.255.240
c.) 255.255.255.252
d.) 255.255.255.0

Depending on your network addressing scheme I could make any one of those work as well as several others. However, if you are using CIDR rules the most appropriate would be "C".

In other words if this were a test question that allowed only one answer you do have one best answer among all correct answers.

I was always told in the academy that you should never waste addresses. So, if you used vlsm, then the appropriate answer would be c.) 255.255.255.252
Cisco exams will look for that answer most likely. Thats what the academy said, and my dad said that too. He's a CCNA

Dang, I'm so jealous. All you CCNAs, and I'm just one of those academy people.
