(I thought XP 32-bit only sees 3gb?).

I am sorry to ask the question which doesnot belongs to this topic. I am using 4GB of RAM to all the XP32 bit machines.. In all the machines, when I check, how much RAM is present, XP shows only of 3.24GB in place of 4GB. So, I dont think that XP can support 4GB of RAM.

As far as I know it supports upto 4Gb but some of the address space between 3Gb and 4Gb is used for hardware, essentially the Graphics adapter. Explained here:

PCs with 64bit proccessors and the WinXP x64 version should normally allow much more than 4Gb so will avoid this problem.

There is some thing called PAE (Physical Address Extension) That lifts the 4Gb limits on Windows servers, but I don't think that this will work for you as it's not related to your 3.xGb limit.

If the AV is resource-heavy why not try a different one? Or is it a company standard?

They already paid for a year service so Iim going to let them run it out then quote them something better when the time comes.
