If I type http://(ip address or url):8888 will it use port 8888 in stead of the normal port 80 for http ? _________________ The Bublitz

This will not automatically change the http port to 8888. The webserver you are trying to connect to needs to be configured to listen on that port number in order for it to work.

Yeah, the :8888 syntax only tells the browser to attempt to connect to the http server on port 8888 instead of the default port 80 - as jwj says, the server has to be listening

Just food for thought...
When dealing with *security*, secure webpage’s use port 443 or you can just type in *https://website or IP*, the *S* auto directs the browser to 443. However there is nothing wrong with trying to hide a webpage anywhere else on one of the 65535 ports, just make sure the port is not already in use or another app/protocol don’t use it (such as 21 for FTP). As already stated just insure your WWW server is listing on the desired port. _________________ Jack Burgess,
