We are doing a migration from NT to Win 2K3 and upgrading our DC's in the process. After the upgrades and upon logging in, we are getting grey screens at some of our sites. Anyone else experienceing this?

GREY screens ?!

You sure you're not going colourblind mate ? Its blue thats microsoft's favourite colour ;)

No seriously.. tell me, are you getting *any* display at all or just a blank grey screen ? In which case it sounds like some wierd display driver problem. Recreate the problem on a testbed system using the same hardware.

Yes, we know what MS fave is, but they did change it for 2K3 :lol:

We are presupposing that it is a display problem because it doesn't happen at every site. We have a number of locations as we are a Gov agency, so the internal hardware varies from site to site. The servers are Dell Power Edge 2500's. I was hoping someone has seen this and has a fix for it. MS is no help at this time. The Login Window shows up, but there is no display once you log in.

I Suppose the problem is in winlogon service try copying a fresh copy of logonui.exe, winlogon.exe

The Grey Screen is the default background color of windows 2003.

Did u get an any message saying that one or more service has failed to start or is it taking long time to get the login prompt ??? , then i guess the problem is with active directory.

start -> run -> dcpromo /forceremoval
uninstall the dc, then freshly install the active directory service and then add the member computer and also intgreate dns with active directory.
Cheers,
