Hello and compliments of the season.

I would like to to move windows 2003 server Ad to a new server with windows server 2008. i would like to get rid of the 2003 box because of hardware problems. Whats the best way to do this. can you backup ad in windows 2003 and just restore it in windows 2008?

The Active Directory Migration Tool might help in this:

Hi

If you talking about just 'moving' to a different server, you can simply promote the 2008 box and run both servers in unison, transfer over FSMO roles and then demote the 2003 box.

However, I should point out, it's not wise to run a single DC!
