We recently took over a network with an ailing server and a number of Windows 2000 workstations. After a few conversations, the customer elected to upgrade their server to a new box with Standard Server 2003.
The new server was built by Dell preloaded with the OS. We implemented a new AD, with a fresh built domain and joined all the workstations to the domain, with minimal issue. Only two applications run on the server, an anti-virus and the company's chosen financial software.
Since that time (a good 7 or 8 months ago) a handful of the workstations have begun randomly corrupting their profile, causing us to either rebuild said profile, or repair the connection to the profile via registry editing. Examining the event logs of these workstations give us no clear reason why this is happening. One workstation in particular has now corrupted its user's profile three times.
We are stumped, and clearly ignorant as to what is happening. Naturally, the customer's first inclination is to blame the new server (since the issue coincides with the new server's arrival.) I'm hoping it's a case of us not being able to see the forest for the trees and that someone else may have encountered this issue already.
