Hello people i want to know how to change the name of my machine in linux im refering to the name that appears for example when you start a terminal session it gives you something like :

root@name1# so how to change this name ;) , a newbie cuestion right !

Not sure about all distros but if you edit /etc/sysconfig/network on redhat based distros that will do the trick.

Also make sure you edit your /etc/hosts file to reflect the name change
