I have a little problem, i want to install vmware 5 on my Suse laptop. I installed the vmware software, along with the update, but the setup was halted because i don't have gcc installed on my system. I typed "rpm -qa kernel* gcc* make" and got this reponse:
So, to make a long story short, i need to install gcc but i don't know how.
You should be able to find the GCC RPM packages inside your SUSE cds/dvd. Make a search for *gcc*.rpm to locate them and then install them using rpm (i.e. "rpm -Uvh /mnt/cdrom/RPMS/gcc-4.1.1.i386.rpm").
Also, I think YAST has a system for automated installation of any application, check it out and let us know!
