Why satellite link is slower than a fiber link? What is the acceptable latency in a satellite link?

satellite is slower for the upstream from the modem to the satellite and the downstream from the satellite to the modem in the other side.

normal latency depends in the technology but in the best conditions you can see satellite links with delay around 500 ms. withc scpc technology (old one).

now providers are replacing old spc with direct ip technology for better performance for the entire path is IP.
