though i am newbie but i want to build my own router below are some linux distros for buiding router which i copied from an online forum and wish to know from experienced users in this forum the one that is preferable, has good network/load balancing ability and filtering plus user friendly.
though am beginning to like pfsense...
Some of the basic *nix router distros....
IPCop...one of the more popular ones, has a big development/support community with lots of add-on packages.
You can add UTM functionality to it with the add-on called Copfilter
I tried Vyatta. It has a command line interface that is some what similar to Cisco's and also a GUI interface. The software can be run on either a PC or Vyatta's own appliances. They have a good number of business customers worldwide including Toyota.
I also heard good news from a friend regarding untangle.
