I was doing a little reading and I am getting confused about ephemeral ports.

In my book, the TCP/IP guide it states:
1024-4999, thereby providing 3,976 total.

But this: www.microsoft.com/technet/community/colu...cableguy/cg1205.mspx says:
1025-4999.
Is there a reason port 1024 isn't used? I know the 1024-4999 range started on UNIX, but I thought it was the same in Windows?
