TOPIC: Router to Router ping failing on Ethernet interface

Router to Router ping failing on Ethernet interface 6 years 9 months ago #32906

I have one Router R1 attached to R2 on Ethernet but when I ping each other, it fails.

R1:
e0/2 = 192.168.20.1

R2:
e0/0 = 192.168.3.1

R1<
>R2
e0/2
192.168.20.1 e0/0 (192.168.3.1)

What am I missing?

Hi,
When you configured the IP addresses, what subnet mask did you specify? For easiest configuration, change R2's e0/0 interface to have an IP address of 192.168.20.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Then make sure that R1's e0/2 has the same subnet mask

Also, make sure that you're using a crossover cable to connect the two routers.

Lastly, make sure that both interfaces are in an up/up state when you run "show ip interface brief"

(router)#show ip interface brief

<practically the first command i do when i log into a router>

make sure everything is up up and in the same subnet
