I have just read a book that may be of interest of any one wanting to learn the basic of networks.

'Computer Networks and Internets with Internet Applications'

Douglas E.Comer

Its a well written book not for the advanced but very good for beginners or can act as a good refresher.

It covers everything from Hardware to protocols

well enough of that shameless plug

Shameless plug ? Did you have something to do with writing the book ? In which case why haven't we got a free e-book version yet ;)

What year is it published in (a few years ago it didn't really matter with regard to networking books as networking was basically pretty static, but now with the number of new technologies out there it would be nice to have something thats both comprehensive and up-to-date)

Gosh I put quite a bit between parentheses don't I !
