To be honest, I never liked Norton Antivirus as a solution. I think its more of a 'trend' rather than a good piece of software and the fact that its installation is around 30-40 mb's - it makes it even worse or shall I say a 'joke'.

I'm always the type of guy who will gladly stick to a program that can do the job I need and is small in size - which means less overhead for my system.

As such, I've been using an Australian antivirus for the past 6 years, that is, Vet Antivirus www.vet.com.au . At only 4mb's and the buit-in capabilities to scan emails along with websites that might contain vbs scripts or other junk, it does the job just fine. The updates are only 1,5 mb's and they are constantly updated.

The antivirus is available for Windows servers, Novell Netware and a number of other operating systems. Highly recommended, low overhead and very reliable.

Other anti-viruses which I've also heard good words about are Sophos and Panta, but I cannot express my opinion on them as I've never used them.

Cheers,
Chris Partsenidis.

Our entire campus uses AVG from grisoft. Also have all machines reporting back to a central server with AVGAdmin running so I can see who is infected and what they are infected with. Nice program.

I'm using McAfee on the corporate network. Chris makes a good point about the footprint of the AV installation. Which is why McAfee's newest offering VirusScan 8.0i is better than previous McAfee versions. Its smaller, faster and more comprehensive than previous offerings.

Bear in mind I am biased cause I use this at work (I used Norton at home but binned it cause its big and slow). There are evaluation versions of McAfee products available for download at www.networkassociates.com/us/downloads/evals/
