Hello,

My company is in the process of upgrading our firewall from the PIX 501 to the PIX 506E. It hasn't arrived yet but I'm trying to prepare for the upgrade. Can anyone recommend any quick and painless ways to make the swap, and retain the existing settings that are on the 501? Can I export the settings to a file, such as through PDM, and import them onto the new firewall and swap them out?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

We did a similar thing, but it was simply a new pix 501- i just copy and pasted the config (not all at once, but a couple of lines at a time) and it worked out pretty ok...

Since the 506E also has two interfaces, I dont see why it would be a problem loading the config directly from the pix 501. You can tftp the config from the pix to a tftp server and then from the tftp server to the 506E.

Or, you can copy and paste the config to notepad and copy and paste it back a couple of lines at a time..
