My ISP changed its DNS server. I'm currently connected to a Netopia DSL modem into my Pix 515e. I didn't have DNS server setup on the pix prior but Bellsouth is telling me that I need to add DNS entry to my firewall or router. The IP addresses to the DNS servers are the same, but when I try and surf the web I get re-directed to Bellsouth's website, telling me that there is a new DNS server and a link to make changed. Bellsouth's solution is to add a static DNS to each system in my office, but I loose my local DNS when I do this. I config a host file but I have over 200 system in the office to hit.

Is there a way to add DNS server's to the Pix so I can keep my local DNS in DHCP?

Behind my pix I have a 2610 router. I used the command ip name-server 205.152.37.23, but am still getting redirected to bellsouth's new DNS server website.

Hi there,

The DNS settings in the Pix and the Router are for the Pix/Router to do DNS queries against. How is your Internal DNS configured ? If you are on a Windows 2003 domain environment all you will need to do is configure DNS Forwarding on your internal DNS Server to point to your ISP's dns service. This should then solve the issues.

Cheers
