TOPIC: SFP combinations in Cisco switches

SFP combinations in Cisco switches 7 years 10 months ago #35186

Hi,

My query is,

i would like to interconnect two cisco switches using multimode fiber optic cable at distance of 1.5 kms. Cisco 3560G switch with GLC-LH-SM SFP and Cisco 2960 switch with GLC-FE-100FX SFP.

Please advise, will it work?

not sure to be honest, i have had problems trying to pair up SFP's and GBIC's in the past.

You have to make sure both sides are the same Gigabit Standard, i.e. 1000Base-SX or 1000Base-LX.

Make sure that two SFPs corresponds to each other wavelength wise. for example Sw 1 (SFP with 1310 nm up and 1490nm down). Sw 2 (SFP with 1310 nm Down , 1490nm UP).

Moreover, You've mentioned Single mode fiber (SMF) type of SFP but you're trying to connect it via Multimode fiber which will not work. You need SMF to connect between two switches 1.5 Km apart.Hope it helps
