Since hacking APs has become such a popular sport (WEP and WPA cracking), another approach to defense comes to mind. Is it possible to have a net of pcs around the target AP (say the wireless AP of a bank). These surveillance pcs would be equipped with powerfull wireless adapters (1000 mW) and directional antennas. When the target AP goes down, (either by flood, DDOS, etc) or is compromised (excessive port scanning, deauthentications, etc) then the most recently connected client mac address and ip is passed off to the surveillance net.

This requires that the surveillance net be able to detect wireless clients that are not connected to it. This might be feasible if the wireless clients are set up for dhcp--wont they be shouting out their identity and asking for a dhcp lease? Is there anyother way to track recently connected clients?

bwana in summary ur question

Is there anyother way to track recently connected clients?

The router model u are using has a log of recently connected clients. Linksys wireless routers and even wired routers are good at tracking and keeping logs. so my question back to u is that what kind of router are u using.
