TOPIC: Topology based question

Topology based question 10 years 1 month ago #26442

Im taking ccna exam tommorow. But i have one doubt in question. Please look the question that i uploaded in this link:-

Below is the selection:-

A: Gateway_Router is configured to receive only RIPv1 updates.
B: Gateway_Router is configured to only receive RIPv2 updates.
C: Branch_Router2 is configured to send both RIPv1 and RIPv2 updates.
D: Branch_Router1 is configured to only send RIPv1 updates.

By the way,, the answer is (D). I just want to know the explanation for this answer.

Please anyone help me. Thanks

I can't see your picture, but probably they want you to know the difference between RIP v1 and RIP v2.

One of the most significant differences is that RIP v2 supports VLSM. In other words RIP v2 also sends a subnet mask within its updates.

If you use RIP v1 you cannot use VLSM (CIDR), so you can only use classfull adresses.

Hope this is the answer u'r looking for ;-)

As I said, see my answer in previous post.

Before making these questions and study your exam, it is much better to first understand what you are studying..

This is nothing more then knowing the difference between RIP 1/2

If I'm not mistaken, A is wrong because the Gatway_Router is already showing classless routes (with a mask of /27). These masks can not be sent using RIP v1. B and C are wrong because there would be no DISPARITY in this case. D is correct because when Branch_Router1 is configured to only send RIP v1. It would not send the /27 masks with the routing updates. So the Gatway_Router will think it is classfull and set it to /24, which makes both routes appear as one

Hope that helps.
