Problem faced by nekkanti:

"hi , i have d-link wirless adapter , i have addded 5 meters extra cable ,it work when fine with company provided 1 meter wire. it fails when i attach the 5m usb cable. it say it looking for usb bt drivers . may i know whats the problem?"

hi nekkanti,
the maximum length allowed on a usb cable to attached an usb device is 5 metres. since you have already reached the upper limit, i think the signal pair attenuation for that length has exceeded proper signal transfer, and the attenuation is beyond 0.76 db. this is failing the device to see the computer or for the computer to see it.
you said it is looking for usb bt drivers. are you talking about your pc which is looking for drivers?
apart from that, the only reason i can think of right now is that you have struck the limit of maximum allowed usb cable length, which is causing you this problem

on second thoughts, that d-link is a wireless adapter, why not use the wireless capability? isn't that the obvious choice? or are there some constraints on your end on not being able to use the wireless capability?
