Hi
I am new to configuring firewalls and was given a used PIX 501.
I downloaded CiscoKits TFTP server and used the Info from:http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_password_recovery09186a008009478b.shtml#sample
and downloaded the .bin file.
There is an IP address on the top of the case 192.168.45.6, I can get in and see the version on the PIX so its I hope the correct bin file I have downloaded I have a crossover cable from O to my laptop along with a console cable, but am unable to ping the TFTP server, its windows 7 i'm running and below is a copy of the syntax from TeraTerm:

Cisco PIX Firewall Version 6.3(3)
Cisco PIX Device Manager Version 3.0(1)
monitor> interface 0
0: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:17 irq:9 )
1: i8255X @ PCI(bus:0 dev:18 irq:10)
Using 0: i82557 @ PCI(bus:0 dev:17 irq:9 ), MAC: 0012.438a.eb39
monitor> addr 192.168.45.6
address 192.168.45.6
monitor> server 169.254.38.141
server 169.254.38.141
monitor> file nppix.bin
file nppix.bin
monitor> gateway 192.168.1.1
gateway 192.168.1.1
monitor> ping 169.254.38.141
Sending 5, 100-byte 0x59d0 ICMP Echoes to 169.254.38.141, timeout is 4 seconds:

Success rate is 0 percent (0/5)

Any pointers very much accepted.

Hi
Update from last post.

I have changed TFTP Server twice since the last post and still can not ping??? Now using SolarWinds

Could well be something I'm doing (More than likley)

Have also checked the .Bin file and have downloaded the correct file for this version 6.3(3) = np63.bin

I have also changed cables twice just in case it was the cable that was faulty

Crossover cable from Con 0 --->> Laptop
Power lights - On
LINK?ACT Light - On (Solid)

Any Help Pointers

Do you have the windows firewall (or any other firewall) running on the TFTP server laptop? If so, shut it down OR configure it to allow ICMP and UDP port 69.)

Hi
Just to let you know that it was the Local Area Connection settings in my laptop that were causing the problem.

Now got it working and restored to factory settings.

Just need to find some material to start having some fun with it.

Thanks for your help.
